Welcome to South Facing: A Journal of Medicinal Plants & Their Applications

South Facing is a quarterly journal that covers any and all aspects of medicinal plants from therapeutics to ecological conservation. Although our general focus tends to be North America and China, we welcome readers and authors from anywhere in the world and hope to use this journal as a tool for building bridges between all plant lovers who are particularly interested in medicinal plants.

South Facing was founded by Thomas Avery Garran as an avenue to further his ideas about the world’s need to both gain a better understanding of the plant world and human’s interaction with it, and how medicinal plants specifically fit into that interaction.

South Facing is, and will always be, FREE (in electronic format) and open source. Funds to support South Facing shall come from either advertising or donations.
